Ryan's "Talking"!

On Ryan's 6 month birthday, he teased us with saying "Da Da" for the first time. He said it a couple of times and we tried to record it, but missed the few minute window of opportunity. Since then, he had practically gone mute, or so it seemed. He would do his usual squaks and squeals of delight, but no babbling. Over the past month we have been prompting him to try and say it again, with no luck. Today, he suddenly decided he knows how to babble and won't stop saying "Da Da". It is so fun to see our little man growing up. I just love him and his sweet self!

Ryan's Baby Blessing

We had Ryan's baby blessing in June and were so grateful for all of the family and friends that came out to support and celebrate sweet Ryan. Carroll, Jessica, my parents, Spencer's parents, my brother and our good friends the Lombardi's all joined us for the services.

Our families came out for the weekend and it was nice to spend time with them and for Ryan to get showered with so much love. We had a great time seeing the sights with Spencer's parents who came in first, and then seeing some family history site with my family once they arrived.

The blessing was an eventful one as I forgot Ryan's outfit at home and didn't realize it until we got to church. Baby blessings usually occur at the beginning of our church services, but luckily our church leaders were understanding and Ryan's blessing occurred a little further into the services (once I had time to race home, grab his outfit, return and change Ryan).

Spencer did a beautiful job and it was a wonderful weekend of family, friends and lots of love.

Elise's Baby Blessing - A Last Minute Road Trip to Austin, Tx

We had really been wanting to go to Austin to attend Elise's baby blessing and for Ryan to meet the Mockler side of the family, but didn't think we'd be able to swing it with newborn Ryan. But Spencer and I decided last minute, like the day of, to road trip down to Texas. There had been some drama at school with Spencer and I was still on maternity leave, so it was the perfect opportunity for a spontaneous getaway. We had no idea how Ryan would do, since he'd never been in the car for more than 30 minutes at a time, so we figured we'd go on a road trip and see how far we got, maybe we'd just end up spending the night in St Louis, but either way we would get out of Evanston and have a family trip. Ryan was a champ and slept almost the whole way as we drove 25 hours straight. We drove in 4 hour stretches, then would stop eat, feed/change Ryan, switch drivers and hop back on the road.

It was a wonderful trip and we were so glad we did it, we had a great time. It was a little rough driving straight through to get there and then only being able to stay for a few days and turning around and driving straight through back. But, it was definitely worth it!
